Located in Forest Row, The Swan has been a local fixture since the 16th century, and we’re excited to announce our latest partnership to give back in a meaningful way.
From Autumn 2024, every time you enjoy our famous fish and chips, you’ll be supporting a cause close to our hearts. For every portion sold, £1 will be donated to the Raystede Centre for Animal Welfare, a charity that plays a vital role in rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming animals in need. With fish and chips being one of our most popular dishes, we’re aiming to make a real difference—one fry at a time.
Raystede Centre for Animal Welfare is one of the UK’s leading animal rescue organisations, caring for over 1,200 animals annually on their 43-acre site in East Sussex. From abandoned dogs and cats to neglected farm animals and exotic creatures, the centre provides sanctuary, rehabilitation, and rehoming services to those in need. Their work is only possible because of their dedicated team of staff, volunteers, and supporters.
Emma Monico, Community Fundraiser at Raystede, shares her excitement about the partnership:
“We are so thrilled that The Swan has chosen to support Raystede Centre for Animal Welfare. Every donation we receive helps us continue our life-saving work, and we’re grateful for The Swan’s commitment to our cause. This partnership will help us rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome more animals, making a lasting impact in the lives of those who need us most.”
Matt Shorter, General Manager at The Swan, expresses the pub’s enthusiasm for the partnership:
“We’re proud to support Raystede Centre for Animal Welfare and their incredible efforts to care for vulnerable animals. Their dedication to animal welfare is something we truly admire, and we’re excited to contribute to their vital work through this initiative. It’s a wonderful way for our customers to make a difference while enjoying a great meal.”
This partnership is part of a wider campaign by Balfour’s pubs, supporting local charities in Kent, Sussex, and the Cotswolds. Each of our countryside pubs has chosen a charity close to its heart—whether it’s supporting animal welfare, helping vulnerable children, or caring for the elderly. Just like at The Swan, every £1 from fish and chips sold at our sister pubs goes directly to local causes.
Whether you’re visiting The Tickled Trout, West Farleigh, The Swan, Forest Row, The Windmill, Hollingbourne, The Ship Inn, Rye, The Falcon Inn, Painswick, or The Goudhurst Inn, Goudhurst, you’ll find us working alongside local charities that are making a real difference.
The Swan is not just about offering delicious fish and chips—it’s about creating positive change in the community. Alongside our campaign to raise funds for Raystede, we also encourage our guests to get involved in other ways, whether by donating directly to the charity, sponsoring an animal, volunteering their time, fostering an animal or fundraising on their behalf. There are countless ways to get involved and make a difference! Raystede’s work is made possible by over 300 dedicated volunteers who help create a safe and caring environment for animals in need, from assisting in charity shops to supporting community events.
Want to do more? Visit Raystede Centre for Animal Welfare’s website to learn how you can offer your support. Every contribution, big or small, makes a difference in the lives of the animals we care for.
At The Swan, we’re more than just a pub—we’re a community partner. Let’s come together to support Raystede Centre for Animal Welfare and make a difference, one fry at a time.
